Bella Rosenberg was born in Krylow, Poland, and was just a child when the Nazi invasion of her home forced her and her family to flee for their lives. In 1941, as the Nazis advanced, Bella, her parents, and her siblings moved to Volodymyr Volynsky, Ukraine, where they sought safety among barns and hay piles, constantly on the move to avoid detection. After a year of hiding, they snuck into the Ludmir Ghetto, but within two days, Nazi police surrounded the area. Bella managed to hide in a basement while her father, David, was tragically captured and taken away. Jehovah’s Witness families eventually stepped in, hiding Bella and her family for the remainder of the war, risking their lives to protect them.
Following the war, Bella and her family were among the 140 survivors, as over 20,000 Jews from her town were murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators. Bella and her family immigrated to the United States where she was able to start anew. She married, raised a large family, and found joy in owning a boutique for over 30 years, sharing her love of fashion with others.
Today, Bella resides in Roslyn, New York, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She dedicates her time to sharing her story, advocating for Holocaust survivors, and spreading awareness about the horrors of the Holocaust.
